WHAT I DO AT WOODLAWN
I teach second grade, and I LOVE it!
FAVORITE SPOT ON CAMPUS
Garden Shed South :)
BEST PART OF MY JOB
Seeing a child's face when they "get it".
SOMETHING NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE PROBABLY KNOW ABOUT ME
I have a fraternal twin sister with red, curly hair and freckles. Her name is Stefani.
IF YOU ASKED ME TO BRAG ABOUT SOMETHING, THIS WOULD BE IT
My two amazing sons: Jake and Luke
A BOOK, FOOD ITEM, OR PIECE OF MUSIC I COULD NOT LIVE WITHOUT
Chocolate and Coffee!
BEST TEACHING MOMENT
This is difficult because there are so many. Here's just one:
Visiting the Davidson Chocolate Company while studying chocolate and listening to my students explain to the owner Anna (who is from Columbia and knows everything about chocolate) everything they had learned in their research groups in class. I was so proud of them, and Anna was amazed at the extent of their knowledge about chocolate.
MOST MEMORABLE FIELD TRIP
Last year, our class took a trip to Richard’s Café in downtown Mooresville to eat breakfast with the veterans and give them Thank You cards we made them for Veterans Day. Our class made the local newspaper! It was such a humbling and beautiful experience for the children and myself.
Watching Shark Tank and thinking up my own inventions.
I KNEW I WANTED TO BE A TEACHER WHEN...
I was in second grade!!! I played “school” with my sister and anyone else who would play with me and let me be the teacher. I had my own easel and chalkboard. I would give my “students” tests (extra worksheets from school that my teacher would give to me). Those were such great memories. Ever since then, I have always wanted to teach.
WHEN I WAS A KID, I WANTED TO BE
A Solid Gold dancer, then a fashion designer, and finally a teacher.
WHEN NOT IN THE CLASSROOM, YOU'LL PROBABLY FIND ME HERE
The baseball field!
BEST PLACE ON EARTH
The beach — preferably Hawaii.
WHAT MY STUDENTS CALL ME
WHAT ATTRACTED ME TO WOODLAWN
The campus, the unique curriculum that allows the teachers the freedom to be creative, and Debbie Lolla!
