Woodlawn Head of School Search
February 14, 2019
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Head of School Search Committee, we are pleased to announce the selection of Paul Zanowski as Woodlawn’s next Head effective July 1, 2019.
Throughout the interview and evaluation process we were struck by Paul’s passion for student- centered learning, his service-oriented leadership, his purposeful calm demeanor and his ability to easily make personal connections. The feedback we received from you after his visit reinforced our belief that Paul is the leader we need to secure Woodlawn’s reputation for educational excellence. The thoroughness and inclusiveness of the search process, and the upcoming transition planning, will be strong foundations for our future Head of School success.
Paul brings decades of leadership and administrative experience to Woodlawn. He is currently serving as the Head of School at Kenston Forest in Virginia and prior to that served as the Head of Upper School at Ranney School in New Jersey. This experience combined with his creativity will have an immediate positive impact on Woodlawn’s strategic and aspirational goals. If you really want to see his face light up, engage him in a conversation about teaching American History!
We are eager to welcome Paul, Cathy, and his adult children who live nearby—Katie Rose and Nick— into the Woodlawn family and will host a welcome reception for them later this spring.
In the meantime, we want to offer our sincere thanks to every member of our community who took the time to engage with us during the search. Your participation and dedication provided the guideposts for our work over the last year.
We also want to thank the members of the Search Committee--Trey Wills, Marlys Daugherty, Dwayne Bowman and Ann Clark--for their tireless efforts with countless hours spent on conference calls and reviewing mountains of data.
Many thanks go to Interim Head Rob Blackwell and staff for assisting the Committee in every way possible. Rob and his team will be key participants in the transition planning, while they continue to provide our children with a transformational education experience every day.
In Woodlawn Spirit,
Lynette Rinker, Chair, Search Committee
