At Woodlawn, all students are actors, musicians, speakers, and dancers. We celebrate the performing arts, appreciating how they challenge and affirm students, and find ways to integrate various forms of performance into academic core classes. Musical theater and music class are both offered as enrichment courses in lower school. In middle school, musical theater is integrated into the music curriculum all year. In upper school, students have multiple elective offerings in music, theatre, and dance as well as opportunities throughout the year to share their talents.
Woodlawn's theatre company, the Red Barn Players, was founded in 2008. The Red Barn Players produce a combined middle/upper school production each year. All students in lower school participate in an annual musical theater production every spring. Students are involved in all aspects of production: direction, design, acting, technical direction, and stage management.
Annie was my first play so I was excited since I had never been in a play and never played with a dog which had me face my fear of dogs!Elizabeth R., 4th Grader
I was so surprised when I got the part for Annie. I loved working with the dog on the set since I have never done that before.Olivia M., 3rd Grader
